Women Entrepreneur posted Escaping E-mail Overload this week, taking a look at some ways of managing the onslaught of emails commonly awaiting all of us in our inboxes. This gets interesting when Mark Hurst from Bit Literacy challenges Tim Ferris’s 4 Hour Work Week and David Allen’s Getting Things Done. Ferris rebuked with some interesting points on his blog. Much to his credit, he raises the point that often these systems work in conjunction with each other, helping different people at different parts of their productivity journey. All of this has got me thinking about just how personal organization and productivity systems are. No two file cabinets are alike.
So where in the world of all this do you lie? Are you a Bit Literacy champ, do you only work 4 hours a week, or do you prefer to get things done with lists? No matter the answer, we sure do hope Jott helps with it all (I’m sorry… I just couldn’t resist!)
Did you know that you can record your name in the Jott system? This will play when someone calls to send you a Jott message and we ask them to confirm who it’s going to. Just call 866-JOTT-123, or your local Canadian number, and say “Name” when asked “Who do you want to Jott?”. Record your name as however you’d like it read back to people. That’s it! The next time someone wants to send you a Jott message, and our system asks them to confirm where it’s going, they’ll hear you say your name!
Reminders are one of our most popular features, so I though I’d share this tip with those of you who use them often. You can easily bypass saying “Reminder” when asked “Who do you want to Jott?” by pressing the 4 key on your phone’s keypad. We’ll recognize you want to set a reminder and jump right to asking you what day and time.

Just came across this great idea on Twitter– using Jott to archive your text messages! For a long time now you’ve had a record of text messages you send using Jott, but since we implemented being able to text message your Jott account, now you can forward text messages others send you (not using Jott). Here’s how to do it:
1) Create a list on the website for all your archived messages, for example: Texts.
2) Select the forward option on your text message
3) Insert the name of the list you created, which in our example is Texts, in front of the message you are archiving.
For about 40 minutes today, some of our customers may have received a notice saying that the Jott number (866) JOTT-123 was invalid. This was due to an outage from one of our telco vendors, effected many companies, and is very rare. We know that many of you use Jott for mission critical applications, so our most sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Again this is a very rare occurrence, but if it does happen in the future, please feel free to try our alternate number (347) 523-8843 which was up and working during the outage. We are working hard here to take all steps possible to minimize these occurrences in the future. Many thanks for your loyalty to Jott. We have the best customers in the world and we hate when something like this happens.
