The New Jott

After two and a half years, millions of Jott messages, and thousands of feedback emails we’re excited to announce that Jott has come out of beta!

So, besides a new logo without the “beta” label, what’s changed?

There are new Jott Plans
There’s something for everyone! Take a look at our Get Started page and pick the plan that works best for you. There’s a grace period for our early adopters, so if you have a Jott account already you have till September 8th to pick your plan. Not sure which one is right for you?

  • If you like to leave quick to-dos and have access to them on your desktop and online, try Jott Basic.
  • If connecting to other productivity web services, sending hands-free messages and using your email as your to-do list make your life easier, try Jott.
  • If you need longer recording times and Jott for BlackBerry, try Jott Pro or a Pay-as-you-go option.

There are two new Jott Apps

  • Jott Express
The fastest and most efficient desktop list application out there! Create and manage notes and lists on your desktop whether you’re online or off. If you’ve been using email as your to-do list, give Jott Express a try - it syncs with the website and Jott for iPhone!

FAQ

Q: Why are you coming out of Beta and starting to charge us?
A: As John said in his letter to you, we’ve spent two years testing and learning about how you, our customers, use the service. We are confident that our product is now ready for prime time, and we need to create a business around it to continue to create innovative features and to serve you. We’ve worked very hard to create plans based on how and what you all like to use, and that can work for anyone on any budget. The reality is that Jott costs money to run and we are committed to being around for years to come helping you turn your words into action.

Q: When does the grace period for “early adopter” customers end?
A: Monday, September 8, 2008 at 12:00 AM (PDT)

Q: What will happen if I let the grace period end without choosing a plan?
A: You will automatically be set up on the free (ad-supported) Jott Basic plan. All of your Jott Notes/lists will remain intact, but you will no longer be able to use premium Jott Links like Remember the Milk and Google Calendar, and you will no longer be able to use Jott to send messages to your contacts (all of these features are available in premium paid plans).

Q: How much time will I have to record messages going forward?
A: Jott Basic (free, ad-supported) and Jott ($3.95/month) will have 15 second recording times. Those of you who would like longer recording times can opt for 30 seconds with Jott Pro ($12.95 / month) or 60 seconds with a Pay As You Go plans.

Q: Will my Jott Links still work?
A: All Jott Links will work with Jott, Jott Pro, and Jott Pay As You Go plans. Jott Basic users will have access to communication links such as Twitter, Blogger (and other blogging services), as well as Amazon and Zillow. All “productivity” links such as Google Calendar, 30 Boxes, and Remember the Milk have been moved to premium plans (Jott, Jott Pro, and Jott Pay As You Go). If you are currently using a premium Jott Link but opt to use the Jott Basic service, you will no longer be able to access that Jott Link over the phone or from the Jott website. You will need to manually delete those Jott Links from your account.

Q: Why did you put “productivity” Jott Links into paid plans only?
A: We are more than happy to still provide a service that enable customers of other productivity-focused companies to input to-dos and accomplish other tasks using their voice via Jott. However, it does cost us money to run Jott and given the value we provide to customers, we feel we have come up with very reasonable monthly and pay-as-you-go plans that let you access those links. We decided to keep Twitter, Blogger, and other blogging services free to help spread the word about Jott, as they are one-to-many communications mechanisms. Amazon and Zillow are Jott Links that give Jott Basic customers an idea of what can be done with the service and other Jott Links.

Q: Will I still be able to use Jott to email and text message my contacts with my voice?
A: Premium plans will have this feature enabled. Jott Basic will not. If you have entered contacts, those contacts will still be saved unless you delete them, so if you do decide to upgrade your plan at some point, your contacts will be ready and waiting.
