Jott for iPhone delayed
January 29, 2009Update: By popular demand, here is a quick walk through of the new app. Note that we still have a day of internal testing before we send to Apple. Many thanks again for your patience. We understand that we ideally would have had it out by now, but we want to make sure the product is great.
Update: Thanks for the feedback. We’re extending the 10% off annual plans discount for existing customers through the end of February so you all have a chance to test the new iPhone app.
Hello Jotters,
We’re testing the iPhone App now and have gotten word from the folks at Apple that the current approval process is taking up to 3 weeks (can sometimes be less). We’re hoping the app will get through the process quickly. It will be submitted for review this week. It will include the ability to post to all of your Jott Links, groups, and your iPhone contacts. It will also work with second generation iPod Touch models (if you have the earphones with the mic - not supported on 1st generation) and with first generation iPod Touch models for text input only.
If you have the old app and are a paying customer, it will continue to work after February 2nd. If you have not upgraded to a paid plan yet, the old app will no longer transcribe the messages you leave and your messages will not be stored on Jott’s servers after February 2nd. To those of you who have subscribed to Jott since we de-listed the iPhone application at the end of December, we’ll have it out as soon as possible. Thanks so much for your patience. We think you’ll love the new app.
All the best,
Doug

Thanks for the update! I was really wondering about the iPhone app after I became a paying customer this week!

I also just paid thinking the iphone app was due soon. I will wait a little while but further delays will cause me to re-think about cancelling.

When someone searches for Jott in Google, the top result provides a helpful link to an iPhone app page–which, in turn, gives a 404. (A nicely formatted 404, but a 404 nonetheless.)
It would probably make sense for you to add this information about the upcoming app to the page where the information about the old app used to live, because I suspect few people will take the time to search for a blog post explaining the current status.

So how much will i have to pay with 10% off for my Iphone app.
Is there a free desk top Ver. for XP or do you have to pay for that to.

So, on the “walkthrough” I didn’t see Toodledo!! You’re not dropping that link are you?
Comment by Jott User — February 3, 2009 @ 10:26 am
@ Jott User: Toodledo is still a link, don’t worry, just wasn’t shown on the screen. All Jott Links work on the iPhone app.
@ Liz Lawley: It’s a good point Liz. Unfortunately, we’re not going to have that page up until the app is out.
@ Dan Greenhill: You don’t have to pay extra for any Jott apps. They are included with your monthly/yearly/pay as you go payment. The one exception is that Jott for Blackberry is currently only available in Jott Pro and PayGo plans. We do have an app for XP built on the Adobe Air platform. It’s called Jott Express and it’s great. If you use Outlook, you should try Jott for Outlook too.

Very nice. The application looks great and will be very helpful. I hope they provide sdk for the ability to reply to emails just like blackberry. That would make this app perfect. come on apple.

Will the iphone app give you the choice of sending the recording to the contacts email or cellphone sms? Will you be able to choose?
Comment by frankie — February 3, 2009 @ 2:07 pm
@ frankie: We’re looking forward to when Apple releases email access as well, and yes, you do get to choose which number or email address you want to send your message to.

Nice demo, thanks for posting it. I just tried to upgrade my account and did not see an option for the Promo code (extended until end of February) before it asked my payment info. Has this been removed?

Any news on when an Android app will be available?
Comment by Alex Linebrink — February 4, 2009 @ 9:55 pm
@Jim: There should be a “Have a promo code” link on the billing page (here: https://jott.com/settings_billing.aspx). Hit the link, enter your code, and you should be entered into the upgrade flow. Hope that helps.
@Alex Linebrink: No news yet on an Android app I’m sorry to say. It’s on the list, but behind some other stuff. If more customers demand it, we’ll definitely re-prioritize.

Any idea when the iPhone app will be released?
Comment by Bert — February 12, 2009 @ 8:57 am
The original iphone Jott app had a customizable bottom menu. Is this functionality retained in the new app?
for example:
Can those of us who do not choose to use voicemail or contacts, remove these items from the bottom menu of the new iphone Jott app?

Any updates on new app availability?
Comment by Linda — February 15, 2009 @ 6:05 pm
I keep looking for the iPhone app, but have yet to see anything… am I missing something? The only way I will use Jott is through my iPhone, so there is no point in paying for it until there is an app.
Will previous iPhone Jott users be notified of the apps availability and receive a new 10% off promo code?

Any further updates on the release of this app? I am anxiously awaiting.
